Mwananchi Engineering and Contracting Company Limited (in short MECCO Ltd) is one of the oldest and largest private local construction companies in Tanzania which, over the past 50 years of its existence, has undertaken a considerable number of major civil engineering and building projects in the country some of which to-date represent notable landmarks in many Tanzania urban centers. Those who have been to Tanzania might have seen in Arusha, the Bank of Tanzania building and the Mount Meru Hotel; in Tanga the Bombo Regional Hospital; in Dar Es Salaam the NIC Investment House, Kariakoo Market and the Tanzania Cigarette Company Headquarters; in Dodoma the Parliament Complex and Ministry of Local Governments Onces to mention but a few. All these landmarks as well as other major civil works such as roads, bridges, sewerage systems and airport runways in many parts of Tanzania, sum up MECCO’s long history in the country’s construction industry.
